Internship

Internship

Internship regulations of the Digital Game Design Department: purpose, scope, duration, internship placements, file submission and evaluation.

General Principles

Article 1: Purpose

Internship activities aim to help students consolidate the knowledge and skills they acquire in theoretical and applied courses within their education through real design, production, management and manufacturing processes, and to guide their education through the unique situations arising in these processes. Within this scope, students are expected to get to know the fields of Visual Communication Design and Radio, Television and Cinema, gain design and practical experience, grasp the legal and theoretical dimensions, and acquire experience in the subjects they wish to specialize in.

Article 2: Eligible Internship Fields

Internships may be carried out inside and outside the institution in the following fields:

  • Digital game production companies
  • Animation and visual effects studios
  • Software development companies
  • Educational technology development companies
  • Graphic design agencies
  • Media organizations
  • Other companies, institutions or organizations that include these fields
  • Other fields where internships may be carried out upon evaluation by the Internship Committee and department approval: workshops or other professional activities organized by various institutions, Hasan Kalyoncu University and the Faculty of Communication.

Article 3: Types, Scope and Duration of Internships

Students are required to complete two types of internship (Internship I and Internship II): ‘inside the institution’ and ‘outside the institution’. The total internship duration is 48 working days. Students are obliged to complete two internships, each lasting 24 working days, between the 3rd and 7th semesters.

Article 4: Eligible Periods and Special Cases

Outside-institution internships must be carried out outside education and exam periods, except in cases accepted by the Faculty Board. Inside-institution internships may be carried out during or outside education and exam periods.

Article 5: Determination and Acceptance of Internship Placements

Places where department students may do internships will be determined with the approval of the Department Head, subject to the evaluations and reviews carried out by the Internship Committee. Applications to internship placements and company acceptance are conducted by the students. The student submits to the Internship Committee their application to the company where they wish to intern and the company’s positive response.

The Internship Committee may request detailed information and documents from the student about the internship placement or activity in order to carry out the necessary review and evaluation of the proposal. If the proposed internship placement is found suitable as a result of the review and evaluation, students may intern between the dates set with the approval of the Department Head. Students whose placement is not accepted must find a new internship placement within 15 days and notify the Internship Committee. These forms are also evaluated by the Committee and announced within 15 days.

Article 6: Format and Deadline for Submitting the Internship File

Internship files are collected within the period announced by the Internship Committee. Files submitted outside this period are excluded from evaluation unless there is a valid excuse. The ‘Internship Evaluation Form’ must be included in the internship file. Students can obtain internship files from the faculty web page.

Article 7: Evaluation of the Internship

A student who completes an internship must submit, together with the internship file, the ‘Internship Evaluation Form’ filled in and signed by the institution or supervisor where they interned. This form contains an assessment of the student’s work, attitude and behavior during the internship. The student must hand this form to the authorized person at the beginning of the internship. (The form must be delivered sealed in an envelope.)

Internship files are evaluated by the Internship Committee. For internship files to be considered, the internship placement must have been accepted, the required documents and reports must be complete, and the specified deadlines must be observed. Missing items in the reviewed file will be completed by the student in line with the Committee’s recommendations. The opinions of the supervisor at the workplace, contained in the ‘Internship Evaluation Form’, will be taken into account.

Article 8: Internship Advisory

The Internship Committee holds a meeting in the spring semester to provide information on the importance, purpose, conditions and scope of the internship. Students may submit their internship questions to the committee in writing. Explanations on related questions and problems are announced by the Internship Committee on the internship bulletin board.

Article 9: Obligation to Comply with the Working Rules of the Internship Placement

Students doing an internship must comply with the conditions and rules of the workplace. If a student is found not to behave in accordance with the rules set out in the Internship Directive, the internship will not be accepted. The student is considered to have committed to comply with the rules of the chosen internship field.

Internship File

Daily and weekly work carried out during the internship will be recorded in the Internship File, and the file will be approved by the Internship Advisor at the end of the internship. The general definition, purpose and content of the work, the organizers of the work and institutions, the introduction of participating groups and/or persons, and the types and nature of the topics addressed will be stated. Students must also add written and visual samples of their work carried out during the internship to the internship file. Students must attach their passport-size photographs to the ‘Photo’ section on the first page of the internship file.
